HEALTH TECHNOLOGY ASSESSMENT: EU JOINT ACTION

Strengthening the cooperation between Health Technology Assessment (HTA) bodies in the EU, improving their joint work, ensuring effective ways of taking up good practices: these are some of the goals of the Joint Action launched by the European Commission.

The Joint Action is part of the EU work on cross-border health care, includes 75 partner organisations from 27 EU countries and will run until 2019.

The HTAs are important tools for assessing the ways in which science and technology are used in disease prevention and healthcare practice. Not only do HTAs cover medical issues, but also social and economic issues as well as their ethical aspect.
