Parliament holds event dedicated to research in healthcare

On the 10th of January, the European Parliament will hold a workshop entitled “Innovative solutions for research in healthcare – Developing a novel approach to deliver better precision medicine in Europe”. The event will start at 9h30 with a welcome from coordinator and MEP Paul Rübig (EPP) and a keynote from Belgian Health Minister Maggie De Block. The occasion will count with several speakers from different healthcare representatives such as the King’s College London, European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC), European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA), European Medicines Agency (EMA), European Patients’ Forum and others.

The debate will start with a remark regarding modern concepts in healthcare in the 21st century opening the way to focus on clinical, industry perspectives and research infrastructures. Questions such as the integration of clinical research into healthcare will be discussed such as treatment optimization for better outcome and rationale use of resources. Being one of the hot topics in healthcare, the Health Technology Assessment perspective will also be revised in particular from a patient’s point of view.

The workshop presents an opportunity to discuss the implementation of an ‘innovation-centred’ system, exploring a truly ‘patient-centred’ paradigm with systematically coordinated applied clinical research carried out in conjunction with drug development.
