Immunization Week, 23-29 April 2023

This year the WHO European Region has decided to celebrate the European Immunization Week (23-29 April) with the theme ‘The Big Catch-Up post-pandemic’. Next week will aim to bring awareness on the largest backslide in vaccinations that has happened in the last 30 years and that was fuelled by the COVID-19 global pandemic. The awareness campaign will focus on three overarching messages:

  1. Every drop counts – Every vaccine dose counts to protect you and those you love
  2. Timing matters – Follow the schedule, catch-up as soon as possibe on any missing doses
  3. Have a vaccination conversation – Exchanges about vaccinations build understanding and motivation to follow vaccine recommendations and schedules

The European Medicines Agency, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, and the Directorate General SANTE will be coordinating the sharing of key messages on immunization with a topic per day, throughout the whole of next week. Topics will include childhood, adolescent and elderly vaccinations, conversations with healthcare professionals, scheduling vaccinations and making well-informed decisions.
