IMPROVING ACCESS TO MEDICINES

The economic crisis, the aging of the European population, the latest health threats: EU health ministers agree that many factors have put the member state health systems under pressure. Hence the decision of addressing the shortages of medicines and the related accessibility problems as fast as possible.

“The Council Conclusions on strengthening the balance in the pharmaceutical systems in the EU” is the actual commitment of EU health ministers to improve access to medicine while at the same time addressing pricing issues. The document includes 32 statements regarding the current situation, followed by 17 recommendation for the member states, which are invited to cooperate between themselves as well as to promote synergies between the regulatory bodies, health technology assessment bodies and payers.
