What is the EU doing to tackle and communicate AMR?

The EU-JAMRAI Newsletter (July 2019) was recently released, announcing a variety of activities aimed at tackling the prevalence and the surge of antibiotic microbial resistance (AMR). Supported by the Health Programme of the Health and Food Safety Directorate-General, EU-JAMRAI is a unique place gathering all key actors in the fight against AMR, 27 Member States, international organizations such as OCDE and WHO and more than 30 stakeholders (representatives of the civil society, health professionals, patient associations, actors from the animal and environmental sectors and companies) involved in the field.

This month’s newsletter covers AMR Control in 2019, in the form of a published article asking what is the European Union doing to support Member States. The Second Ministerial Conference on AMR, which took place in the Netherlands, 19-20 June, is also announced. An important activity is the AMR webinar for journalists. This is a great tool to keep communication professionals abreast of the main issues regarding AMR and, essentially, how to best communicate them to the larger public.

Another important notice is the upcoming 2nd EU-JAMRAI Annual Meeting and Stakeholder Forum, which will take place in Rome – during the 16 and 17 of September – and the registration is already open.
